X2 Media Player

X2 Media Player is a lightweight media player that enables you to listen to audio files located on your computer.

It displays a minimalistic interface that makes it comprehensive and easy to use. When you run it, it brings out a small window that displays all its controls and functions. There are no complicated menus to go through. Everything is straightforward.

Files can be loaded into the player using the classical method which involves the use of Windows Explorer, or you can simply drag and drop them inside the playlist of the application. X2 Media Player can handle Ogg, MP3, WMA, WAV, MIDI, XM, S3M, IT and MOD audio formats.

The playlist you create can be saved in an application specific format, this way you can reopen it and listen to the tracks whenever you want to. There is a designated button that brings up playlist options. Meaningly the ones that allows you to add files or folders, save the playlist or remove all the tracks. The problem with that is that it sometimes just doesn’t want to appear when you need it. A quick restart of the application fixes that.

A nice feature that the application has is that during playback it displays waveform and barform visualisations. If for any reason you find them distracting, you can switch them off.

Since the main window of the player can’t be resized and the playlist displays five tracks at once, if you have a large number of them loaded, it can take you quite a bit of time to find the track you want to play, especially since the files are not sorted alphabetically. You do however get a column that shows the duration of a track and a quick scroll bar.

In closing, X2 Media Player is a nice little player to have if you’re looking for an application that takes up little of your system resources but as far as controls and features go, it can use some improvements.
