Dynamic range compression, or compression for short, is one of the most widely used processes in music production today. This powerful tool allows you to reduce the dynamic range of an audio signal, thus enabling you to amplify quiet sounds or quieten loud sounds. Compression can also be employed during live shows or broadcasts.

Even though the process is usually known to improve a mix significantly, too much of it may actually make songs sound “lifeless” and overproduced. While compression may take some time to master, you should also make sure that you have the right tools to help you modify your tracks.
