One of the things you learn early in your music production sessions is that the audio and MIDI tracks in your mix won’t just sound good the moment you put them together. Major tweaking is required for most of the elements in your composition; some of these changes you will need to implement as soon as you load the instruments into the DAW’s interface, while others you will leave for the mixing and mastering phases.

Nevertheless, you will do a lot of tweaking and parameter adjusting, and one of the most common processes that can improve your overall sound is equalization or EQ for short. The operation simply consists of modifying the sound frequencies of a track, enabling you to reduce or cut the frequencies that aren’t really pleasing to the ear and to amplify those that are. Every digital audio workstation will come with its own EQ tools, and there are obviously plenty of dedicated plugins you can use.
