RP-VERB 2

I doubt that there are many contemporary songs that don’t employ reverb in some form or another. Reverb is one of the most widely used effects in music production, and it’s not always such an obvious addition. Many instrumental and/or vocal tracks are sent through a small amount of reverb just to get a bit of room and presence, but larger amounts of the same effect can be used to completely transform the sound.

The digital audio workstation that you work with probably has its own reverb, which should serve you well for your first projects. However, if you’re beginning to understand its limitations, then maybe it’s time to try an external plugin. RP-VERB 2 is but one example of a powerful reverb unit.

Of course, you could probably use this plugin just to add some subtle reverb to your tracks and mixes, but that would be a bit like calling a whole fire department to put out a lit match. Rob Papen’s RP-VERB 2 is a powerful tool that can take your leads and vocals into other sonic worlds. Right from the start, you may notice that this could be an ideal tool for creating cinematic and atmospheric soundscapes. You can take a rather basic synth lead, put it through RP-VERB 2, and it can sound as if a whole orchestra worked on recording those sounds.

The different sections are neatly arranged in an intuitive interface and they offer you plenty of options for designing your sound. Apart from the reverb section, the audio signal can also be put through an EQ, a distortion unit (that can also work as a saturator), and a chorus effect (which is called Ensemble).

The Reverse section is a feature that you’re not likely to find in other pieces of software; as the name suggests, it allows you to reverse the reverb and can lead to new and unusual sounds that you can use directly for your compositions. At first, it probably won’t seem like the easiest tool to use, but you’ll probably get the hang of it after you explore the different presets and understand the ins and outs of this powerful plugin.
