For instance, Basic Music Composer can generate tunes based on two simple factors, namely frequency and duration.

On the bright side of things, the application skips you the whole effort otherwise needed to go through a setup process, and can easily be launched as soon as download is done. Moreover, this makes it possible to carry it around on a USB flash drive, so you can work on your songs from other computers, without having an impact on the target PC’s registry entries.

The default configuration is fitted with several value rows for both frequency and duration, so you get an idea of what can be accomplished. With a minimalistic design, accommodation becomes a walk in the park for beginners of all levels of experience. Editing is done on the spot, with no additional windows showing up to confuse you.

Both edit columns are similar in terms of edit options. The only difference is the impact each column has on the resulting sound, since one handles frequency, while the other time. For every frequency row, you must specify a duration value. There’s no general duration field in case you want to keep a steady tempo.

Playback can be initiated at any given moment, to get instant preview of your work. Unfortunately, disappointment strikes in as soon as you try to export your work, because of the lack of any such options. The only saved are values, but this is done under a plain TXT file, which is loaded the next time you run the application.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Basic Music Composer is a cool sound generator, but possibilities are rather limited, with no instruments to choose from, or effects to enhance sound overall. What’s more, editing, and preview are only done locally, with no possibility to save your creations as audio files.
