Composing with electronic and virtual instruments can be a bit mind-blowing at times. When you’re new to everything and stumble upon words like sequencer, modulation and compression (and have no idea what they mean even after hearing them multiple times) you begin to wonder if studying an instrument or two for a few years wouldn’t have been the easier alternative.

But this is mainly because, in the digital world, the possibilities of electronic music are almost endless. Many of powerful synthesizers of old (along with their sound banks) are nowadays crammed into plugins no larger than a few hundred megabytes. Consequences doesn’t only offer you a large collection of sounds, but also some very powerful tools to play them with.

Now, it should be said form the very beginning that Consequence actually feels like and old school synth when it comes to looks and sound. While you’ll also be able to find various chords when browsing its sample library, most of the sounds you’ll hear will initially seem very retro.

Of course, this can be easily changed when using the plugin’s sequencers, which allows you to adjust every tiny parameter, until you get something resembling a composition. You can, for example, fine-tune the modulation on an instrument or run it through an arpeggiator.

If you don’t want to start from scratch, begin by using one of the many presets that come with Consequences. Don’t stop there, though; change one of the three instruments and see what happens, add more notes to the composition by using the keyboard, or add effects like chorus, delay or reverb.

Adjust other parameters like speed, compression and use a 4/4 kick drum as metronome, so you get a better idea of what your future creation will sound like. Consequences is, without a doubt, a versatile plugin that enables you quickly generate engaging and complex melodies.
