In case you skipped one too many music classes in school and you suddenly decided you want to become an artist, there’s still hope. Specialized computer applications can serve as powerful tutors, letting you practice, and learn at your own pace. For instance, Follow Me comes with the means to teach you how to play a variety of tunes, using several different instruments.
The application doesn’t necessarily rely on an external device to play. However, there is the possibility to connect an external MIDI device, and configure it for synchronization, to make lessons more interactive. Depending on what you wish to learn, there are a few preset instruments to choose from, such as guitar, flute, or keyboard, each with its own dedicated style, and chord representation.
The instrument you choose determines what type of chord style to use in visual feedback. On the other hand, related song, and other options remain unchanged. Audio isn’t the only type of provided feedback, with visual representation of fingers for keyboard, as well as tabs, and flute highlights for respective instruments.
There’s quite the variety of songs you can choose from. This is done from a drop-down menu, fitted with well over 20 popular songs, each with corresponding visual, and audio feedback. Unfortunately, there’s no possibility to load custom songs, but existing ones can keep you busy for a while.
You can’t interact with the fret, or keyboard preview area, unless you connect a MIDI device. Other related settings make it possible to adjust tempo, in case you want to slow things down, or practice at a faster pace. The volume can be handled in a similar manner, make the song loop, and enable drum accompaniment for cool rhythm.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Follow Me can teach you a thing or two about playing the keyboard, flute, or guitar. The overall design is pretty intuitive, and even though there’s no option to load custom songs, the built-in library is rich enough to test skills with different chords.
