Lightweight application that enables you to configure your audio tracks to make them sound better, listen to them and view their waveform. #Texture Generator #Audio Texture #Create Texture #Pattern #Fragment #Texture
HourGlass is a software utility whose purpose is to aid you in processing your audio files and playing them, with support for viewing waveforms.
The installation process can be skipped with great ease, as this tool is portable. As a result, the Windows registry and Start menu/screen are not going to be affected in any way, and no leftovers will remain on the drive after its removal.
It is important to keep in mind that you can take HourGlass anywhere with you and run it on any PC you come in contact, just by clicking the EXE file and placing the program files to a removable data unit (e.g. pen drive).
The interface you come by presents a pretty cluttered, yet quite well-organized build, as it contains a menu bar, a waveform of the uploaded item, several buttons and a few drop-down menus. All types of users can find their way around it, regardless of their previous experience with the IT world.
This software program supports import from formats such as WAV, AIFF, AU, PAF, OGG and FLAC, while you can also play or stop a song, with the help of the built-in playback controls. In addition to that, you should know you can adjust fragment rate and length, panning center, fragment volume, panning and transposition spread, and sound source select.
It is possible to also record sounds with this tool, and customize main parameters such as sound weights morph, fragment length, script meta A, playback speed, pitch morph, texture position and master volume.
To conclude, HourGlass is a useful and reliable piece of software for optimizing tracks. The interface is user-friendly, the response time is good and there are sufficient options integrated to keep you glued to your computer for quite a while. It does not put a strain on your computer’s performance and we did not pick up on any errors or crashes in our tests.
What's new in HourGlass 1.4.5:
- Changes :
- Preliminary feature to allow envelopes to play at different rates, as a multiplier of the texture length. (ie, if the texture length is 8 seconds, setting an envelope rate of 8 will make that envelope play 8 times during the whole texture.) The dial allows changing the speed to some common multiples of the texture length, the text box can be used to enter a free rate multiplier between 0.001 and 1024. This feature currently conflicts with the looped texture playback. The workaround is to disable the looped playback. (The sounding result will however effectively still be looped for most envelopes.) Also, when offline rendering, longer progressions of multiple playback rates might not evolve as far as desired, as the offline rendering ends at the texture length plus the tail length. The workaround is to use the live output recording feature. I will try to come up with some solutions to these in the future.
- Maximum voice count increased from 256 to 512. It will depend on the computer capabilities, the used resampler mode and use of multithreaded voice processing if all the voices can actually play.
- While making the above change, I noticed a performance problem with high voice counts, which hopefully is now fixed.
