Metronome

Creating songs is not as simple as it sounds, as you need to keep track of a whole bunch of variables. For instance, every instrument needs to be in perfect sync with a preset BMP value, which is good to have running while recording your songs. In this regard, Metronome comes with different configuration options.

One advantage in particular is that it saves you the entire effort required to go through a setup process, so you can easily carry it around on a USB flash drive in case you want to use it on other computers. The health status of the target PC is not affected, because registry entries remain intact during the whole operation.

The application puts some emphasis on visuals, attempting to make it easier for you to get acquainted with the target BPM value. The BMP rate is expressed through one of four possible visual styles, which you can toggle in real-time. There’s a decent space in which the selected animation plays, but you can’t switch to a full screen mode.

A side panel provides quick access to all related options. These help you define the BMP value, notes, animation, and audio feedback. It comes with several audio samples, including some MIDI background sounds. These can be changed, but you need to manually replace files in the source folder for things to work out.

Unfortunately, the application only comes with several preset BMP values, and doesn’t let you manually set it. There’s no possibility to record, but there’s really little need for this operation. Toggling the playback state is easily done through the interface button, or the Enter key.

Bottom line is that music creation isn’t simply narrowed down to playing an instrument or arranging several sound items in a pleasant order. Various details need to be taken into account, and Metronome is the type of application to help during the recording session.
