MIDImage

For those of you who don't already know,  files with the .MID or .MIDI file extension is a Musical Instrument Digital Interface file, but unlike regular audio files like MP3 or WAV files, MIDI files don't contain actual audio data and are therefore much smaller in size.  Designed to be another tool in your musical arsenal, MIDImage generates MIDI tracks from your images - whether photos, graphics, or just blobs of color.

Not many people would look at a picture online and think "I wonder what this image would sound like," but for those of you who love to think outside the box, MIDImage can be an excellent tool to add to your library. With control over the key, mode, tempo, instrumentation, length of the notes, an almost infinite number of variations are possible. Those of you who have experience with MIDI files will find the interface to be familiar, the only additions being minor image editing tools, such as flipping and rotation.

While at first the sounds will not exactly seem too melodic, subsequent use and gathered experience would allow you to tell just by sight which images will "sound" good and which won't since the algorithms are pretty simple. You'll eventually realize which color has to be predominant for a sound to be of a certain pitch, and what pattern have to be present for it to be of a certain tone, etc. For those with a good hand in digital drawing, you may end up doing some reverse engineering, eventually drawing pictures that you think will "sound" good.

MIDImage is the type of program that you never hear about because the actual number of people that may find it useful is not that large. As such, anyone who stumbles on it will either love it and spend hours upon hours using it, or will hate it, uninstalling it after the first use or glance at the interface.
