Metronome

If you happen to play at least one musical instrument, then there’s a very good chance you know what a metronome is. For those of you who don’t, a metronome is a standard practice tool that produces a steady pulse (called a beat) to help with playing the rhythms accurately. In short, it’s a device that produces “ticks” at a set rate specified by its user.

Metronome is an Electron-based application that aims to take the place of the classic, analog metronome as it digitally assists you towards improving your musician rhythm and ensures you always play “in time.”

Once installed, the app greets its users with its minimalist, dark-themed GUI. It’s designed to be as unobtrusive and as intuitive as possible, so you can focus on what’s really important: learning to play various instruments or creating music pieces.

There are 3 main GUI elements worth explaining. However, before that, you should know that the app is capable of playing beats ranging from 35 to 260 BPM. You can effortlessly change the BPM/tempo from the second panel of the GUI and with the help of your keyboard’s arrow keys, or enter the value directly.

The value of the beats (quarter beats, the subdivisions) can be changed from the first drop-down menu. And, of course, the third element is a classic play/stop button which allows you to control the metronome.

As it stands, the app is sure to help beginners play “in time,” and ultimately succeed in improving their rhythms. However, more experienced musicians in need of a digital metronome will surely look elsewhere for apps with more features.

That said, as and ending note, it’s worth pointing out that the developer behind the project intends to elevate the app by adding various advanced features such as support for a light theme, support for more OSes, the ability to change the time signatures, a volume controller, beat indicator, support for additional subdivisions, and a preset tempo indicator.
