We all had that great track that always made it's way to the day-by-day playlist and had no idea who wrote it or how it's called. If you are still in that situation, or your activities require you to search the web by audio samples, Sononym can lend you a helping hand.

The interface is composed of two main windows and a toolbar. The thin one is the navigation bar used for selection and activity badges; the main window is split into two parts, one for loading and adjusting the sample and the other for result found after the search was completed.

You can customize its color theme, font size and other display options from "Preferences." The app also supports bi-directional drag-and-drop which means that you can quickly load files by directly dragging them atop the tool's window.

This application was mainly developed to simplify the audio files web search. It works exactly like Chrome's reverse image search, but it only works with sound files.

If you sample is recognized, the details about its provenience will be quickly displayed.

Right after the first use, Sononym creates small libraries containing additional information about the samples (tempo, pitch, amplitude, etc.). You can access the libraries from under the "Playback" option.

These libraries can also be upgraded or removed. The upgrade may be necessary when the app has changed the version to avoid probable issues. To remove a library, choose “Remove” from its context menu (the library itself is located in the list of libraries).

The easiest way to add an item to a collection is to press the keyboard shortcut while a search result is selected and focused. This will bookmark the selected outcome, using the currently chosen path in the currently selected collection as the insertion point.
