SoundVolumeCommandLine

SoundVolumeCommandLine is the console edition of the SoundVolumeView application, providing commands to manipulate sound options for the local system and the running programs. While it does not come with a standard interface, it can be used by more advanced users and developers who need to perform actions related to the sound volume.

Running the executable file in the Windows console reveals a few usage examples that give you a hint on how this application works and what it can do. Unfortunately, there is no built-in help system to display a list of commands, as it is usually the case with console-based applications. On the other hand, the “readme” file inside the archive bundles even more usage examples and an extensive list of commands is available online.

Well, for instance, you can use it to modify the volume level for a certain application that is running on your computer, such as a web browser.   The system volume and audio device can also be controlled via SoundVolumeCommandLine. You can execute a command to mute or unmute the speakers, lower or incrrease the audio volume or even mute the system sounds. The application also gives you control over the microphone device, allowing you to easily switch between “mute” and “unmute” state. The default render device can be changed with SoundVolumeCommandLine.

The console-based application also comes with a “Stdout” command, which sends the information to the standard output (stdout) instead of returning it through the code of the executable file. The returned value is then displayed inside the command prompt and you can see it on the screen.

The console-based edition of SoundVolumeView allows you to control the sound via the Windows console instead of a regular user interface. While it might not be convenient to some, more advanced users will surely enjoy its features.
