bcr steps is an eight-step sequencer and arpeggiator, with features that control velocity, delay, duration, and modulation, built specifically for the Behringer BCR2000 mixer #MIDI Sequencer #MIDI Arpeggiator #Control Modulation #Sequencer #Arpeggiator #BCR2000
Behringer controllers are some of the most popular MIDI controllers out there. The BCR2000, while not the top of the line, is one of the best MIDI controllers for novices due to its sturdiness, simplicity, and very good value for money.
bcr step is an eight-step sequencer that sports controls for velocity, duration, delay, modulation and bend for each step. Even though it's mainly intended for the BCR2000 MIDI controller, this utility can be used just as well with almost any other MIDI controller.
Before anything else, it's worth highlighting that this application requires the presence of Java on your computer. Other than that, you can get started with the app in mere seconds, since it doesn't even require installation.
The app's GUI mimics the clean layout of the original BCR2000 controller, of course, apart from the virtual BPM slider on the top of the screen which allows you to control the sequence tempo. Besides the obvious controls, you're provided with a simple MIDI configuration section (configure the MIDI input and output settings), readily accessible from the menu bar by selecting the setup entry.
In spite of its overall simplicity, the application is fairly enjoyable to work with. However, before you get started, you might want to check out the provided documentation. There are two main, noteworthy sections, MIDI Configuration and Usage Instructions, easily available from the help menu.
Taking everything into account, bcr step is a nifty little app, in spite of its old age and arguably outdated looks. It may have a few knobs above and below the start/stop buttons that are not used and are there just to mimic the way the Behringer BCR2000 looks, but at the end of the day, this is a useful little MIDI tool that is especially relevant if you use it with the intended sequencer/arpeggiator.
