Add covers to your favorite songs to help you easily organize your music collection using this free open-source and lightweight utility. #View metadata #Change cover #Cover art #View #Metadata #Change
Audiophiles may agree that the music quality and convenience of offline listening are not the only important factors that enhance the listening experience. Being able to easily find a song based on its album title, genre and composer while having the option of identifying them by their cover art is just as vital to that experience.
As such, the open-source community set off to provide Windows users with the ability to set images as song covers through Mr Tagger, a neat utility with clean design and metadata viewing capabilities.
Once installed, double-clicking the program’s shortcut brings up a dual-pane layout though which users can add multiple tracks destined to be edited on the left side and then preview their data on the right side, removing the need for extra menus and sections. Given the app’s built-in support for a dark theme, nighttime usage experience is enhanced out of the box.
The application provides users with each song’s most important metadata, ranging from the artist, album and genre to the tags it comes bundled with, thus sparing users from having to access each file’s Properties menu individually. Moreover, users also have the option of adding, removing or switching the image destined to serve as a song’s cover art with ease using a dedicated file picker.
While the application can only currently do this, and it executes this function well, Mr Tagger could use the ability to edit the rest of the metadata it can view, to live up to its name, and to let users avoid resorting to third-party applications for doing so. Finally, the program could also do without most of the items in the white menu bar, such as the View option that does not execute any function whatsoever.
Those who simply want to add cover art to their favorite songs for enhancing their listening experience can make use of Mr Tagger’s ease of use and support for editing multiple files at the same time, in order to give a new look to their music collection and differentiate among tracks more easily.
