A digital photograph is more than just a visual image; it is a file that contains its own data and various other details, which are not essential in order to display it but present you with more information about the image that some could make use of.

The information we're talking about is called "metadata", and an image may or may not contain this type of information, which describes things such as the image's resolution, its size, when it was created, its author, the device it was taken with and so on.

Photini is an easy-to-use application that allows us to read and modify an image's metadata which we capture with our phone, for example. There are plenty of options to choose from regarding the information we can modify.

The application's main tab presents us with the descriptive data we are able to change, such as the title or the object's name, the description or caption, its creator or artist. It even allows us to add keywords and give it a rating or set the copyright holder.

The second tab grants us permission to check the date and time the image was taken and whether it was either digitized or modified. It also provides us added knowledge regarding the lens used, such as model, focal length or aperture.

Photini has another interesting feature that automatically reads the location where the image was taken (if that is present in the file's metadata), or it lets you choose the location in any of the map tabs provided from either Google, Bing or Mapbox.

You also have additional spell-checking available for use, to make sure everything is typed correctly, and you can upload your photos directly from the application to image sites such as Flickr or Google Photos.

In summary, Photini is a simple metadata editor that allows us to tinker with our photos' information and even make adjustments to multiple images at once.
