Whether you want to share an area of your desktop or an opened window, the easy way to do this is to use an application that can capture screen contents. While Windows comes with its own snipping tool, there are also third-party applications created with the same purpose, some better than others.   ScreenshotX is one of them, providing computer users with a simple and easy to use application designed for capturing screen areas or windows.

First, it is worth noting that there is a standard installer app and a portable edition as well. The latter makes it possible for you to launch ScreenshotX directly from a removable drive and use it on the go, no matter where you are. The registry of the host system should not be affected, meaning that the portable edition does not leave traces behind.

Working with ScreenshotX is a breeze. Focusing on functionality more than looks, the application features an overly simplistic GUI that comprises the two available options for screen capturing. To be more specific, it can capture free-size screenshots and window screenshots. Unfortunately, there are no options to capture the entire screen, resize the screenshot, blur elements or take delayed screenshots, which are usually very sought after functionalities.

Once you take the snapshot, the ScreenshotX editor is opened, and you can use the available tools to make annotations and draw arrows to highlight specific areas of the screenshot to get the attention of the viewer or change the picture’s background. There are multiple background colors and patterns, either static (fixed background images) or dynamic (generated from the colors of the screenshot).

ScreenshotX allows you to take screenshots quickly and easily, providing a few tools to help you make annotations or change the image background before saving it. It comes with a color picker and custom backgrounds for the pictures. While there is room for improvement and the feature list is currently poor in comparison to other similar tools, the ScreenshotX application is promising.
