Multi Sketching

Some may need a screen capture tool more than others, and now that the built-in screen grabber built into Windows 10 and 11 is more reliable, going for a third-party solution is less of a need than it was in the past.

Of course, this all depends on your usage. If you’re after something a little more advanced, but still simple enough to use, then Multi Sketching should seem like a good starting point. It can capture photos and videos of a selected window or display and can even record through your webcam, among other things.

There’s little need to introduce the capture functionalities, as they work much as you would expect. A highlight feature in my eyes is Sanitization, which uses an OCR algorithm that will obstruct any words you type from view. It didn't always recognize everything I typed, but for what it's worth, it's a nice inclusion that is at least worth a try. Note that not typing anything when using this feature will hide all text.

This OCR tool can be further used to detect and copy any characters from your screenshot. It worked fine during my use, but you’ll need to reformat the resulting text in the end. Even if it’s a feature that’s rarely amiss from such tools, it’s worth mentioning that you can also annotate your screenshots.

Capturing screenshots generally worked without issues: I was able to select the window or display I wanted to capture, and the app followed through. This worked just as well when recording my screen or webcam, but the lack of editing options meant that I couldn’t alter the recorded clip in the app.

You can opt to record at a higher or lower resolution, as well as modify the framerate, but that’s about it. I should also note that the program did not always respond to the hotkeys for capturing screenshots and recording clips, making it less reliable than I'd like when it came to taking a quick snap.

Multi Sketching comes forth with a nice concept for a display capture tool. The screenshot capture and editing capabilities are well implemented, but the screen recorder features are a bit lacking by comparison.
