The Internet will never fall short of screenshot applications. It doesn't matter if you wish to capture an interesting moment happening on your screen or generate some work-related images, finding these tools won't be a problem. The operating system already includes such programs in its toolbox, so choosing the right utility is a matter of preference. ProjectScreen is a lightweight tool that focuses on simplicity first and foremost, allowing the user to take area screenshots only, with a single click.

ProjectScreen is portable, it requires no installation process and has a small INI file that offers a low level of customization. Launch the executable and select an area with the cursor to take a screen capture. The app will immediately close after the screenshot is saved. This aspect might sound a bit underwhelming, but it has a workaround.

Pinning the application to the taskbar will smooth out the launching problem. As mentioned above, the app's use is limited to one screenshot per session, however, if you pin the app to the taskbar you'll be able to speed up the screenshot action by adding one click to the mix.

Using the app for the first time will give you the impression that it doesn't work. How so? Well, you get the initiation message when the app is launched, the selection area is clear as day, yet after capturing a screen, you get no feedback. That's because the app saves all screenshots to the Documents folder. You can change that by opening the INI file and modifying the output location.

Also, all images are saved as PNG. If you are not happy with that, go to the same INI document and change that as well.

ProjectScreen might be one of the easiest screen capture tools out there. It may have an unorthodox launching behavior, with closing after one capture and offering no output confirmation, but if you get used to its little oddities, you'll come to appreciate it.
