The Windows Snipping Tool can be very useful if you’re trying to capture something from your screen, but the utility isn’t all that versatile, which is why a third-party program may be necessary in some cases.
ScreenShot Grab is an open-source application that lets you capture content from your screen, export images to various formats and upload them. It enables you to upload files to your own server, Imgur or FastPic.
When it comes to taking screenshots, this application doesn’t bring anything new to the table. You can capture the contents of the entire screen, a window or a specific area, but the default hotkeys are, sadly, not customizable.
One feature worth mentioning is that the application is capable of cropping the margins of the captured image automatically, which can be very helpful for fullscreen snapshots.
ScreenShot Grab should be especially useful if you need to share your screen captures quickly, as it can upload them as soon as they are created. The application supports Imgur and FastPic, and it also allows you to use your own server.
What’s more, it is possible to upload images from local storage, even those that have not been created by the program. A direct link is generated instantly and can be copied to the clipboard.
The program saves all actions to a log and provides quick links to the last files to be saved and uploaded. However, the history is not remembered after the application has been shut down.
ScreenShot Grab can open your screenshots in an external editor if you need to perform any modifications, but it does not offer any editing features of its own.
Overall, this utility can certainly come in handy, but it needs to be improved in some respects. A couple of more features would be welcome, and users should have the option of changing the default hotkeys.
