Any default keyboard is fitted with the Print Screen button which instantly takes a snapshot of everything on screen and sending the picture to clipboard. Luckily, developers came out with tools with which to enhance the functionality of this button, and applications like Screenshotz are a suitable example in this regard.

Setup is fast and effortless, with a prompt to start the application right away. On launch it immediately minimizes to the tray area, with no tooltip or notification window to let you know it’s there. Sadly, there’s no tray menu with options to capture a screenshot, but the default hotkey for this operation is the “printscreen” button.

Immediately after pressing the trigger button a new window shows up with the screenshot. The design is intuitive, with most of the space dedicated to the preview area, as well as a side panel for quick management of picture operations. You can take the time to adjust size, or save directly.

You might find the set of options a little shallow, but this is mostly because there are no common edit options. In fact, changing color, or adding effects needs to be done through other means, with no such built-in options. What you can do is choose orientation, and crop by writing values or dragging edge sliders around.

File support isn’t abundant, but you are able to save under file formats like JPG, PNG, BMP, and GIF. In case you need it as soon as you reach the desktop, you need to manually place a shortcut in the system Startup folder, because there’s no option to trigger this from the program’s menu.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Screenshotz is a cool enhancement to the default screenshot operation, but it lacks advanced, important features such as automatic saving to a custom location, or more functions or effects in the editor.
