Spud Tablet

Vtubing has become quite the phenomenon recently, and thanks to the various tools on offer to facilitate the process, the trend is still only going upwards from here. Virtually any type of stream — barring the ones that involve outside activity — can be done by a vtuber without much fuss.

Vtube art streams are quite common nowadays, and they usually just involve the streamer's avatar, along with them working on their art. You can go even further with Spud Tablet, which can track your mouse or tablet inputs for an extra layer of interactivity, showing everyone how your virtual avatar moves their hands about.

There really isn't much to the set-up of this program: if you want to start right away, you can do so without any reservations. Just launch the executable, and two windows will open: one will display the tablet view, while the other will only display your hands. The input is received from your mouse/cursor, and if you have a tablet connected, you can choose to mirror those inputs.

The tool works surprisingly well with receiving inputs from the user's cursor, and we didn't come across any issues in our testing. If you wish to tweak the program, you can do so by editing the .ini file: you can modify the background color, set an FPS cap, mirror the right or left hand, as well as designate offsets for the pointer and the wrist.

As any seasoned streamer might expect, the best way to get the most out of such a tool is by pairing it with a program like OBS. Designate a new window in the app, select Spud Tablet's window, toggle transparency, and you're set — everything works a treat, primarily owing to the incorporated green screen. You can reposition the hands and tablet view however you want.

Spud Tablet is a neat little app that Vtubers, aspiring or otherwise, will appreciate: it adds an extra layer of tangibility and reality to one's virtual avatar, and in such cases, that can make quite an impact.
