Sometimes, you may find it necessary to grab screenshots of your desktop at a regular interval, and not many screen capture applications offer this functionality. Installing complex monitoring software is an option, but a simpler alternative may be more suitable.

Screen Capture is a small, open-source utility that resides in the system tray and grabs screenshots of the desktop at a user-defined interval. It lacks advanced features, but it is unobtrusive and very intuitive.

While this is clearly not the most complex application of its type out there, it has the advantage of being remarkably simple to set up. No installation is required, and you can launch the program from any location.

You need to select the output folder and set the capture interval when starting the process, but the program does not store these settings, which means you have to set everything up again the next time you launch it.

Whether you wish to monitor user activity on your PC or keep records of what you are doing, Screen Capture can definitely prove helpful. It helps that it is very unobtrusive, as it runs quietly in the system tray once it has been configured.

The screenshots are saved to the PNG format, which can be an issue, as PNG images tend to be quite large. If you let the application capture content for a long time, you may quickly find yourself running out of disk space. It would be great if outputting to the JPEG format was an option, with a customizable quality setting.

On the whole, Screen Capture can get the job done, but it needs to support other output formats aside from PNG. Nonetheless, it is lightweight, portable and unobtrusive, so it may prove to be just what many users are looking for.
