There are tons of image processing applications out there which either aim to fix errors you can’t when taking pictures, create drawings from scratch, or simply enhancing existing images with various effects. One suitable example is BlueNote which relies on a set of mathematical algorithms to enhance or alter pictures.

The first thing you notice even before launch is that the application doesn’t come packed in an installer, letting you easily carry it on a thumb drive to use it where necessary. Its core function is strictly dedicated to editing pictures, so registry entries are not affected in the process, thus keeping the target PC clean.

You’re able to work with only a few picture formats, but these cover most popular types such as JPG, BMP, PNG, GIF, and TIF. Multiple pictures can be opened at the same time even through drag and drop. A new window is created for every picture you’re working on. Saving also benefits from the same amount of formats, which means you’re also able to convert to the desired type.

As far as processing tools are concerned, you don’t get to interact with the picture itself, but rather rely on small prompts and value to calculate input and generate the preview. Most output components are created in a separate window so you can later on process both components and not have the original file affected.

Hovering the cursor over parts of the image updates the RGB values in the status bar. Most effects you add don’t make the application stand out from the crowd, with only a few default ones like blur and sharpen. However, more variety can be obtained through morphology filters. These are dedicated to elementary, filters, high-pass, geodetic transformation, and granulometry.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that BlueNote comes with a decent variety of features to help you extract different colors and details from pictures, as well as enhancing through advanced and standard effects. Multiple images can be processed and even saved under different formats when done.
