PhotoEffects Store App

PhotoEffects is a straightforward application that comes in handy for everyone who wants to quickly create amazing-looking photos with the help of the provided filters and share them via email.

It's wrapped in a modern and user-friendly layout, divided into the effects menu and the working area. The app is installed on the Windows Store and occupies little space. Due to its simplicity, even those inexperienced in using image editors can easily modify their pictures.

Right from the main menu, you are prompted to select the desired image and choose the filter you think is the best. The general categories are sun, soft, HDR, delightful, romantic, retro or colors. Each group comes with several other styles that bear abbreviated names from the initial filter. Some examples are HDR 1,2, 3 or romantic 1, 2, 3, 4.

Once you're happy with what the photo looks like, the result can be saved as a JPG, PNG or BMP image format. Plus, it's possible to toggle the full-screen mode to view the details better and go back to the previous design using the undo and redo arrows.

Despite the rich effects selection, PhotoEffects doesn't offer any other editing options, like resize, crop, rotation or flip. You can't enter text with custom color, size, font type, shapes or stickers. It would've been a great addition if the app came with a few basic drawing tools to create artistic backgrounds and clone specific areas.

Taking everything into account, PhotoEffects is a Metro app which can be installed on Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, and offers a rich collection of colorful and vintage effects to enhance your photos. Even though it provides an extensive selection of filters, the lack of basic functions limits the user's ability to fully customize the pictures.
