A graphic or a text watermark is the easiest way to protect ownership and copyright of an image you post online. Whether it is a brand’s logo or another distinctive symbol, the watermark makes it difficult for others to use your image as if it were their own.

Image editors usually come with options to overlay graphic watermarks, but if yours doesn’t, then a dedicated application, such as imgmarker, is the way to go.

What imgmarker does is help you place an image watermark on top of a picture. The application requires no installation, which is quite convenient, given that it is such a simple tool.

You might be surprised to see that imgmarker displays a simple window with absolutely no menus, buttons or options. The first instinct is to click everywhere and, as you will discover, the right-click menus are the way to control the application. However, you cannot do so until loading an image, which can only be done by dragging and dropping one within the main window of imgmarker.

The application supports some of the most popular file formats, so it also works as a picture viewer to an extent. Once you open an image, the options in the context menu are not grayed out anymore and you can use them to resize the image, change the background color, capture the window, change the view or copy the image to the clipboard.

And now for the watermark-related tools. There are options in the menu that allow you to show or hide the mask (watermark) and you can start from there. The application comes with its own default watermark image, but you can easily change it by right-clicking on it. This opens a different menu that comes with options to edit the watermark.

Imgmarker allows you to reduce the color depth of the overlaid image, add transparency and apply the AlphaBlend effect. All this helps you create a transparent watermark that can lay on top of the original window to protect your ownership. Once you are finished editing, you can choose to apply the watermark and save the output.

Imgmarker is one of those simple, yet handy tools to have around. It practically is a WYSIWYG watermarking tool and nothing more. While it is rather easy to use, it does come with a readme file to provide assistance in case you need it.
