Background Creator

Background Creator is a tiny and portable application designed to help you create custom wallpapers for the desktop. It features various shapes, shadows and effects, along with intuitive settings for all user levels.

As setup is not required, you can save the app's executable file in any part of the disk and just click it to launch Background Creator. Another option is to make a copy on a removable storage unit to be able to run it on any PC directly, without any previous installers. More importantly, it doesn't add new entries to the Windows registry.

The GUI is made from a normal window split into four panes dedicated to saved settings, shapes, shadows, and effects. You can select one of the several preset patterns provided by Background Creator and view them within the main window, such as stars, livid, circus, reptilian, neon, or ocean.

It's possible to configure basic settings for the shapes, such as hex size and color (including secondary hex color), gap and variance, along with the background and grid colors. The shapes can be set to fill the screen. Plus, Background Creator can draw the border and fade the hex interiors, as well as exclude the taskbar.

If you want to draw shadows too, you can edit the horizontal and vertical shift, together with the transparency level and size. As far as effects are concerned, it's possible to enable color bleed mode while keeping in mind that it may have an effect on the screen due to performance issues, as well as pick the number of passes for this effect.

The image can be generated in full size with one click, while the settings can be saved as a profile, so you can create additional profiles with different configurations.

There were no stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the app didn't hang, crash or display error messages. Its impact on the overall performance of the machine was minimal.

On the other the hand, it contains some limited features. For example, it doesn't give you the possibility to load images from local files. Nevertheless, you can test Background Creator for yourself, since it's free.
