Adding comments to a JPEG file can help you send a short message about an image or gives you a little bit of context, as a viewer. On older Windows versions, the metadata, including the comments were visible by default. On Windows 10 however, the Details Pane, which takes care of the information display, is not activated. To unhide this feature, you must open the File Explorer, move to View (on the toolbar), and find the option in the first row.
When the Details Pane is up, you are free to view and edit the metadata. The downside regarding the Comment section from inside the pane is the lack of space for a larger comment. JPEG Comment Editor focuses on adding and changing comments for JPEG images only and also holds a small converter that lets you change another image format to JPEG on site.
The interface has that vintage look that was often seen with Windows XP application, however, the aesthetics are not affecting the functionality and some old Windows users may even like it.
Taking a look at the UI's construction, we can notice the loading dock on the left side, where you can drag and drop your files or folders. Of course, there has to be a preview panel, and under that is located in the comment section. From there you can add your comment to a single image, or to how many you've checked, from a larger list.
The bottom part of the interface is reserved for a small feature titled "Batch." That function comes as a time-saving way in case you need to add the same comment to multiple files at once. Also, the combo menu reveals two more options - Export Com. and Remove Com - so adding comments is not the only thing to do.
If you have to add a comment to an image that has other formats and you are willing to change it to JPEG, there is no need for a separate converter. The application offers a swift way of converting any image to JPEG.
To summarize, JPEG Comment Editor is a simple tool that deals with image metadata, but it's strictly limited to JPEG comments. Even if Windows 10 does not show them by default, some of you might find it useful for family photos or different projects that require displaying images with descriptions. Regarding the operation, there are no professional-grade requirements for it, so everybody can use it without missing anything.
