Working with forms and collecting data from human-marked paper can be a really tedious process if carried-out manually. Optical Recognition Software (OMR) can speed up the process considerably and it is normally used for tests, surveys or questionnaires.

MarkReader is an OMR application that was developed specifically for use in conjuncture with scanning devices for processing documents and extracting data. Its functionality relies around the process of working with standardized forms.

Users must note right from the start that the application does require scanner devices that are outfitted with a WIA interface. Other than that, it works with even lower-specced scanners with resolution in the range of 10-20 ppm.

Unlike similar OMR software, this application also supports processing of barcodes, OCR/ICR and the production of image clips.

One of the program’s dedicated features, “merge data with template”, allows one to work with unique prints for each form, with applications such as pre-printing identity cards or similar educational field information.

Some of the extra features will allow users to also perform basic scoring and survey analysis automatically, while gathering the data and also export the resulting information to some of the most common formats, for further processing in external applications.
