There are numerous types of RAW formats in use nowadays, with each digital camera manufacturer employing several even for different versions of the same device. With so many file types to work with, and new formats always cropping up, your OS might not be able to handle all of them right out of the box.
NRW Codec was designed to help Windows manage NRW RAW files created with Nikon COOLPIX digital cameras. The full list of supported cameras is available on the Nikon website, should you be unsure of the format used by your device to save image content.
NRW files are uncompressed images that contain raw image data, and some systems will have trouble opening them or generating thumbnails. They generally need to be processed further before being shared or used in various projects, but it does help to have a way to preview them.
Installing the coded is a rather simple affair, as you only need to go through a step-by-step installation process that guides you through the setup. After the codec has been installed, and possibly restarting the system, Windows should be able to generate thumbnail previews and allow you to manipulate the file in various ways.
