Pictures aren’t just to express funny situations and shared with your friends online. These are also required for identification in your ID card, passport, and other types of documentation. In case you want to create such photos yourself to print out, Passport Pictures lets you easily specify size and region, with options to create tiles.
One of the application’s main advantages is that it can be used on other computers directly from a USB flash drive, since it doesn’t require an installation to function. What’s more, you don’t have to worry about any stability issues on the target PC, because registries are not a dependency, thus not modified.
Although you can’t just drag a picture over the main window to get it ready, the browse dialog isn’t difficult to use, and also comes with a preview pane for inspection. The variety of supported formats is decent, and you’re able to process pictures like PNG, JPG, JPEG, BMP, EMF, and WMF.
There aren’t any buttons or panels at all, and you might end up scratching your head for a while after the picture loads. However, all functions are hidden inside the context menu, and the left mouse button is how the region is specified. Dragging a vertical line creates a small frame, with size specifications for the whole picture and selected region shown in millimeters and inches.
Copying the selected region brings up a different window, just so you can get a better look at the configured region. Now is the time you can either send the image to clipboard, or save it as JPG. However, the application can automatically multiply the captured region into a tiled picture, keeping size and quality intact.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Passport Pictures manages to live up to expectations, letting you work in an intuitive environment which can easily be used to cut out parts of pictures suitable for official documents and papers. Although it can’t directly print out pictures, export options preserve quality, making this app worth a try overall.
