Ronin

Algorithmic art, also called by some computer-generated art, is a type of visual art generated by an algorithm or “algorists” (as the algorithm artists are often referred to). The most common example of algorithmic art is fractal art.

Ronin is a straightforward and nicely designed procedural graphics tool that can be used to generate this type of art, as well as other types of algorithmic images. Its kit is also perfectly suited for automating simple graphical tasks such as coloring, cropping, or even resizing.

Its utility comes from the smooth mix of a modern yet simplistic GUI and its internal library. Since it is open-source, it can be easily upgraded with library elements to suit anyone's particular style.

At the top of the main window, there’s a basic menu bar that allows users to create new projects, save or open already existing ones, as well as export the projects as images (PNG format). The Project menu allows users to run the code, reload the sequence, re-indent, as well as clean the code editor altogether. Of course, all the commands have keyboard shortcuts associated with them.

In short, learning to use Ronin only requires a bit of patience and getting to grips with some of the basic LIPS commands, which the app interprets as graphical images on the right side of the main window.
