TIFF Border Remover

Pictures on a computer can be saved from a variety of sources, including scanners. However, this method might also create blank borders, depending on the size of the target page. Specially designed for this situation, TIFF Border Remover aims to target your entire collection of TIFF pictures, and automatically crop them to remove unwanted borders.

It takes only a little while to set up the application and be able to check out the set of features. When installed, the main window shows up, with no additional panel, or window showing up, making the whole operation quick, efficient, and easy to learn, even by inexperienced individuals.

Needless to say that the target picture format is TIFF, so you need to make sure the files you want to crop are under this particular file format. Adding them can only be done through the browse dialog, which lets you pick the content of an entire folder. An additional option can be enabled, so that pictures from subdirectories are included as well.

There’s no built-in preview for pictures, nor any kind of filter. However, the application does show the number of files it’s about to process, and finished tasks, so you can check whether it cropped all images inside target folders.

Before putting the process in motion, you can also have subdirectories automatically created for output files, just like they’re grabbed from the source. Moreover, you can choose the same destination as the source, and have original files overwritten to skip you the effort of manually removing them afterwards.

The application processes pictures according to your request pretty fast. However, there’s no control over the crop region, and you risk cutting out important details from pictures. Preset frame values are used, regardless of the size of the image.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that TIFF Border Remover comes with good intentions, but with no option to specify at least a percentage of borders, there’s always the risk to have larger areas cropped than initially expected. File support is rather poor, while the overall set of features leaves more to be desired.
