Create and design 2D home plans by inserting predefined objects, drawing lines, measuring distances, and building multiple floors #Create 2D home design #2D home design generator #Generate 2D home design #Creator #Create #Design
XFloorPlan is a feather-light and portable software application that allows you to seamlessly put together home designs in 2D. It features preset objects when it comes to walls, doors, windows, appliances, furniture, cabinets, bath and kitchen, and others.
Since it's wrapped in a portable package, you can save the app files in any part of the computer and just click the executable to launch XFloorPlan. Another option is to keep it stored on a USB flash drive, in order to directly run it on any PC with minimum effort. It doesn't modify Windows registry settings.
The GUI doesn't include particularly stunning graphical elements but it's very easy to figure out. You can explore all objects available in each category, such as Sheetrock, brick, circular or rectangular columns walls, single or double door, single, double or triple pane window, straight, folding or spiral stairs, kitchen or bathroom sink, and so on.
The objects can be inserted into the design via mouse clicking. It's necessary to edit some properties in some cases, like the width and pivot of a door, or the angle and number of steps of stairs.
It's possible to create and label multiple floors, measure distances, add text captions, make adjustments in the design, zoom in and out, as well as copy and paste shapes. Moreover, you can hide the wall length from display and change the measurement unit. Undoing and redoing your actions is possible.
The project can be saved to file and later resumed, as well as printed. Unfortunately, XFloorPlan doesn't implement options for exporting projects to other formats, such as images or PDFs.
The application didn't put a strain on the overall performance of the computer, using low CPU and RAM. However, it prompted error dialogs out of the blue in our tests. We must also take into account the fact that XFloorPlan hasn't been updated for a long time. It seems like an unfinished project. For example, "Insert" and "Tools" do not open any menus.
What's new in XFloorPlan 0.3:
- Undo/Redo feature.
- Added Appliances and Cabinets shapes.
