Images come under different size specifications, known as the resolution. Sure enough, the higher the resolution, the better the quality of the picture, but space becomes a concern, and some services might limit you to custom size specifications. In this regard, Zen Image Resizer comes with the means to quickly resize photos.
Launching the application directly can only serve for testing purposes, and to check out the set of features. For whatever reason, there’s no possibility to load an image file once the application is launched, and dragging one over the main window has no effect either. In spite of this, you’re still free to edit functions at your disposal.
As stated in a small details pane, the application’s core function is to apply a custom set of size specifications to a picture, and save it in the same path under a different name, thus not affecting the original. This means you can’t modify the save path, so it’s best to work in a new folder, where only those files you want to modify are found.
In order to be able to use any of the features, the picture file either needs to be dragged over the application’s executable, or use the “send to” context menu entry, and pick Zen Image Resizer as destination. You need to know that those are the images you want to resize, because there’s no preview panel.
To make matters worse, the application only comes with four fixed size specifications, which don’t exactly provide the flexibility you’re looking for in such a program. This can affect the quality and orientation of your photos, and there’s no way to leave the size as is. Apart from resize options, there are several effects like sharpen, sharpen more, sepia, and dream, but can’t be configured.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Zen Image Resizer doesn’t manage to bring anything new on the market, and the features it does put at your disposal are rather frustrating to use on the long run, poor in number, and little variety of resize options. Batch processing is not supported, and methods of loading a picture can quickly make you look for alternatives.
