Candescent Slideshows

After transferring all your photos from a camera you might want to review and go through them at least one time. Sure enough this can be done with the Windows built-in viewer, but there are also cool alternatives which can also store the entire collection in a slideshow, with one suitable example being Candescent Slideshows.

On the one hand, the application skips you the effort of having to go through a setup process to make it work, which means it can just as easily be stored on a thumb drive to use on the go. This comes as an advantage if you also store your picture collection on that drive. However, the target PC needs to be equipped with .NET Framework for everything to work out.

A new project needs to be created to be able to start adding your resource files. This is saved to a custom location and you can give it a name and description. This step creates a new window inside the main one, and you can even work on multiple projects at the same time. File support is decent, and you’re able to load files under formats like BMP, PNG, GIF, JPG, and TIFF.

All items you add are enlisted in a row with large thumbnails, item number, and filename. Interacting with a file brings up a properties panel in which you get a bigger preview, EXIF information, and possibility to add comments.

The slideshow starts in an independent window, which is a component you can run as a stand-alone instance. This comes in handy for running saved slideshows, especially since the only export option is for the program’s own format. On the other hand, it’s possible associate it so it opens up with the viewer by default.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Candescent Slideshows is a straightforward application with which to quickly assemble and run slideshows. Sadly, customization options are pretty shallow, with no option to at least adjust slide time, let alone transition effect.
