With most mobile phones fitted with high-quality cameras, pictures are taken on a daily basis, and at some point, you might want to review your creations, and even organize them in different databases. As an alternative to the Windows built-in image viewer, Viu 2 comes as a portable solution to enjoy, and organize your collection of pictures.

The application can work just fine from the moment download is done, meaning you can carry it around on a USB flash drive, along with your collection of pictures to enjoy in a new, fresh environment. You don’t have to worry about affecting the target PC, because registries are left intact, since they’re not a dependency.

You start off in a blank space, with the upper toolbar being equipped with an address bar, and several other navigation controls. You can either use the browse dialog to directly jump to a folder, or navigate as you normally would through drives and folders, all shown in a thumbnails view.

Locations can be marked as favorites, so you can then easily jump to them from a dedicated drop-down menu. Multiple instances of the application can be opened at a time, and this can be used to easily move, or copy files around through drag and drop.

In case you don’t want to run the application and navigate to a specific location every time you want to go through your picture collection, Viu 2 can be associated with some common, and uncommon picture file formats such as BMP, BW, CEL, CUT, DIB, FAX, GIF, ICB, JPE, JPG, PAL, PBM, PCC, PCD, PCX, PDD, PGM, PIC, PNG, PPM, PSD, PSP, RGB, RLA, RLE, RPF, SCR, TGA, TIF, TIFF, VDA, and a few more.

Some extra tools allow you to also work on file names, to better organize your collection. The built-in renamer tool can be used on more items at a time, either to simply add numbers, replace strings, or change the name completely. There’s also a converter in case you need to use one or more pictures under particular formats.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Viu 2 is a practical replacement for the default Windows picture viewer. Simple navigation allows you to quickly jump to your collection, and even save favorite locations, while the viewer, and extra tools make it worth your while.
