Drop Icons

Drop Icons is a lightweight utility that provides a quick way to convert any standard image files to an ICO format. The latter can come in handy for designers as well as anyone who wants to customize the icons for specific files and folders on their PC.

The app comes with a setup and a portable edition, so you don’t need to install it if you prefer. The interface consists of a small single window where you can drag and drop the images you want to convert, just as the name implies. Alternatively, you can browse to the desired folder and select the files to be converted from there.

The program doesn’t offer too much in terms of options, but that’s not necessarily a drawback given its role. You can, however, specify if you want to save the newly created ICO files in the same folder as the source images. The arrow located in the topmost right corner can be used to remove files added accidentally.

It is worth mentioning that there is no limit to the number of images that can be converted in a single session. Then again, the developer mentioned that you can only preview the first 3. Another limitation is that while you can view the total number of files added, the number is counted without the 3 first images that you can preview.

The app can generate 16px files, but include pixel sizes varying from 16 to 256, so you can get a high quality icon. Depending on the operating system, the files can be generated with adaptive corners, both simple and rounded.
