RAW files come with lots of benefits for those who can take advantage of them: the added editing headroom can turn a decent photo into a great one in the right hands, but it's equally easy to over-edit a shot and make it look worse than the original.

However, not everyone wants to dabble in RAW editing, and if you've got any such files lying around, you'll know that they are nigh impossible to share: they take up a lot of space, and the RAW format is always supposed to be converted after editing. NEF to JPG Converter does exactly that: it converts your RAW files into a more common and easily shareable format in an instant.

This is quite an unassuming program: the installation is pretty cut-and-dry, so everyone will be able to get this app to run on their system without any fuss. After that, users can boot it up and start converting their photos with ease. The program allows for drag and drop, which makes adding your stuff more convenient. RAW files of any format are welcome here: RW, NEF, and PEF were the formats we tried, and they all worked fine.

The conversion format can be changed to fit your needs: JPG and PNG are available, but users also have the option to turn their shots into GIF, TIF, and BMP files. Converting will significantly reduce the size of the file, and you can tweak that further by adjusting the Quality value: 85 is the default, and it strikes a balance between visual fidelity and size.

A Resizer function is also available, whereby users can alter the width of their images. Everything is self-explanatory in this program.

The program claims to be capable of batch conversion operations, but that sadly wasn't the case in our testing. Feeding more than one image would result in it converting only a single photo and leaving out the rest. We tried this with multiple shots, and the issue did not cease to occur.

NEF to JPG Converter is thus a decent piece of software if you're looking to convert the odd RAW file every now and then. Introduce more than one file, and it's not guaranteed you'll see them all converted.
