Perhaps one of the reasons why it continues to stir hype is because many of us grew up playing games depicting limited graphics and recreating images tends to invoke warm feelings.

SLK_img2pixel is a tool dedicated to transforming standard images to pixel art. According to the developer, the idea is not to replace the artist who should be appreciated for the time, effort and creative view, but rather provide some assistance.

Given the role of the tool, it is only natural that the interface boasts a retro style, which many pixel art fans out there would appreciate. You can get started by loading the image and you can immediately see the default input and output in the dedicated window. On a side note, the app also supports loading presets, entire directories and even GIF files that you can access from the Special tab.

In terms of customization, you can tweak the palette with the one provided by default or you can employ your own. There are numerous options of palette to choose from and dozens of additive color models, so the sky's the limit.

You can modify the width and height, edit the gauss and alpha or change the sample model from the Absolute and Relative settings. Lastly, you can tweak parameters such as sharpness, gamma, saturation, contrast and brightness from the Process tab. Any modification made is available in real-time in the Preview window.
