There’s certainly no shortage of resources to watch anime online, and most of them are actually good ones, too. The websites often feature modern and user-friendly designs where you can watch anime in peace, with some even offering the opportunity to chat with other fans and share your post-episode thoughts.

Perhaps you’re not a fan of that, which is why a dedicated anime streaming app can make a lot of sense. You get no ads, no distractions, and can watch your favorite works right from your desktop. That’s the goal of Akuse: to offer users an easy way to view their favorite animation content with minimal effort.

To start off, you’ll require an AniList account. Creating one takes very little time and integrates nicely with what the app offers. Upon authenticating, you’ll be able to start watching anime at your leisure.

If you happen to have an AniList account already, and if it’s been maintained in some form, then all the better as the app will retrieve your logged anime to display it on the main interface. Releases you’re currently watching will be synchronized accordingly, but there’s one extra step you have to take to ensure everything’s in order.

This involves going to the settings, then toggling the Update progress automatically option under AniList. This should be enabled by default in my view, but either way, it’s an easy and quick process.

The Home tab is replete with a wide array of anime recommendations. Trending and most popular shows can be accessed from there, but you can also browse specific genres. Clicking an anime will bring up its page, which will provide a quick description, as well as its episode list.

Note that you can manage your AniList entries right from the app. Click the + icon next to the Start Watching button, and you’ll be able to add the respective anime to a list, update progress, as well as grade the overall experience.

For convenience, and thanks to the AniList integration, you can access the My List tab where you’ll be able to see the works you’re currently watching, what you’ve been planning to see, as well as what you’ve completed in the past.

Despite being released very recently, Akuse shows a lot of promise. As a suggestion, it would be nice to be able to use the app without an AniList account, even if that means reducing some of the amenities the app provides.
