AVISynth GUI

AVISynth GUI is a feather-light application that represents a graphical interface for AVISynth, the script-based video editor which happens to be free and open-source. It doesn't require setup and lets you preview, trim and split video clips, among others.

Since this is a portable program, you can save it in any part of the disk and just click the executable to launch AVISynth GUI. Another possibility is to save it to a USB flash drive to be able to directly run it on any workstation and edit video clips. An important aspect worth noting is that, unlike most installers, it doesn't modify Windows registry settings.

Media content can be opened from AVI-formatted files only, as the name suggests. The tool shows the .AVS script and enables you to change it, as well as import a new one from the external file.

It's possible to preview the AVI clip in a built-in media player and create subtitles by entering the time from the start, duration, position, captions, font, size, colors and outline. Subtitles may be attached to a specific clip or the entire video, as well as previewed.

AVISynth GUI also features an audio mixer that you can use to adjust the movie's volume level. In addition to this, you can correct colors, manage multiple layers, split or trim the clip, apply a layer fade effect, administer available effects in the library, edit the script, check out project statistics, and so on.

The utility worked well in our tests, without hanging, crashing or prompting error dialogs. Its impact on the PC performance was low, as it needed low CPU and RAM to work properly. On the other hand, it hasn't been updated for a long time. Even so, you can test AVISynth GUI for yourself, since it's free.
