Active Video Converter

Active Video Converter is an application designed to help you turn video files of multiple formats (including AVI, MPG, MP4 and WMV) into 3GP, ASF, FLV, MP4 and others.

But it can also extract the audio stream and save it to AAC, MP3, WAV and WMA, as well as prepare items for iPod, PS3, PSP and Zune, among other devices.

The program comes with a user-friendly interface where you can add items to the queue by using either the file browser, tree view or "drag and drop" method. Encoding multiple entries at the same time is possible.

The file queue provides some information about each media file. This include the source path, duration, size and status. If you prefer the default settings, then you can simply establish the output destination and profile, in order to start the conversion task.

Advanced users are free to configure the audio and video properties when it comes to the codec, size, quality, bit rate, bit tolerance, frame rate, aspect ratio, sample rate, channel mode, volume level, bit exact algorithms and deinterlacing. Plus, you can disable the audio or video stream, as well as create output profiles or restore options to default.

You can select the synchronization mode, preview clips in a built-in audio player, set Active Video Converter to overwrite existing files and to exit, open the output directory or to turn off the computer after encoding.

The video conversion software has a good response time and includes a help file. It quickly finishes a task while using a low amount of system resources. The output videos have a fair image and sound quality. We have not come across any issues throughout out testing.

On the downside, you cannot specify the thread priority, minimize Active Video Converter to the system tray or trim videos. The interface needs some improvements as well but we must take into account the fact that Active Video Converter has not received any recent updates.
