Without denying that YouTube is one of the most popular streaming platforms for videos, sometimes a slow Internet connection can spoil the entire experience. Luckily, you can overcome slow connections or the lack of it via a dedicated downloader.

MuffinTube3 is an open-source utility that allows you to grab videos from Google’s streaming platform, clips that are automatically converted to MP3.

The installation is a relatively quick and uneventful operation that does not require any special attention. The application comes with a minimalistic interface and frankly, it seems a little buggy, especially if you add multiple videos. You can see buttons overlapping other windows in the interface, which can be deterring.

Nevertheless, the app does a good job at grabbing videos. As previously mentioned, you can get started by pasting the URL link of the video in the dedicated box in the upper section of the interface. After a few seconds, time during which the app checks the link, it proceeds to download it.

From the small settings button, you can select a folder where the videos should be saved. Other options worth mentioning is the small editing that you can find to the right side of each video where you can add or correct the title and artist name.

According to the developer, the audio is ripped from the audio with the highest quality available and converted to 240Kb/s VBR MP3 files using libmp3lame. Moreover, you can choose between two youtube-dl variants in the Settings, with the developer recommending YT-DLP as the main one.

In the eventuality that you want to prepare a playlist for when you will not have an Internet connection, like a car road trip for instance, then you can consider giving MuffinTube3 a try.
