MKV Converter is an easy-to-use application that enables you to create MKV files from videos with various file extensions. It offers support for 3GP, AVI, FLV, MOV, MP4, MPG and WMV, among others. The tool has standard options mostly geared toward users with no previous experience in such software.

The only notable aspect about setup is that you must have .NET Framework installed to be able to run this program, since it was developed with the help of this platform.

As for the interface, MKV Converter adopts a classical window with a straightforward look, where all options are visible. You can get started by filling the task list with the videos you intend to convert.

Thanks to the fact that batch processing is supported, you can convert as many vids as you want at the same time. Before starting the task, it's possible to specify the output directory and preferred quality of the new files by selecting one of the presets: same quality, very high, high, medium, low, or very low.

Alternatively, you can customize the output properties when it comes to the audio and video bit rate, along with the frame size, frame rate, and aspect ratio. Apart from the fact that you can remove an item from the list if you change your mind, clear the entire queue to start the entire project from scratch, and stop an ongoing conversion job, there are no other noteworthy options available.

It had minimal impact on the computer's performance in our tests, running on a low amount of CPU and RAM. No error dialogs popped up and it didn't hang or crash. On the other hand, MKV Converter is not capable of skipping a file if it encounters any errors. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself, since it's free.
