Smart Converter

Smart Converter is an approachable software application whose purpose is to convert audio and video files to a wide range of formats to prepare them for playback on popular removable devices, such as Xbox, Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android Phone, or PSP. It can also save audio tracks as AAC, MP3 and WAV.

After a fast and uncomplicated setup operation, you are greeted by a user-friendly interface, represented by a small window that invites you to open media using the file browser or drag-and-drop support.

Unfortunately, batch processing is unsupported by this tool, so you are restricted to converting only one file at a time.

The main app window shows the clip's thumbnail and lets you check out its size and conversion speed, together with the audio and video parameters pertaining to the file name, resolution, channel mode, frames per second, and sample rate.

All you have to do is select a preferred output profile from the list and let the application take care of the rest. This process may take a while, during which Smart Converter remains light on system resource consumption.

The output directory cannot be customized though, and the utility doesn't let you know where it saves the converted files (in the "Videos" library of Windows). Plus, it doesn't integrate a feature for changing the output audio and video properties.

No error dialogs popped up in our testing, and the app didn't hang or crash. It's not as feature-rich as other tools dedicated to media conversion, but Smart Converter offers extensive file type support and can be easily handled by anyone.
