On the one hand, the application is portable, requiring no installation in order to function. This allows it to be carried around on a thumb drive with little effort, just in case you want to perform this operation on other PCs as well. Registry entries remain intact, since the file is directly edited so the system doesn’t have to suffer.

The visual design is minimalistic, putting all features in plain sight so you don’t have to rely on extra tools or windows, not even for navigation. Split into two sections, you easily select the file of interest from a tree list of files and folders on your computer, while value fields take up the rest of the space, some also containing preset values like genre and rating.

Sure enough the application tries to reduce your effort when selecting a file, but the built-in navigator shows everything, regardless of content, and it can be a little tricky to identify files you need. What’s more, there’s no search function to help you out.

Needless to say that video files you can target need to be encoded using the DivX codec. Files encoded this way can end up under different formats like AVI, MPEG, MKV, or even DIVX, so you might as well try your luck with all files of interest. Don’t worry, actual content is not affected, and all changes need to be applied before they’re written into the file.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that IDivXTagger is a lightweight, practical application with which you can organize your video collection by filling in all missing tags and info fields. Although it can get a little frustrating to find files of interest, and you can only process one item at a time, it’s sure to help with small collections.
