The picture-in-picture functionality sometimes feels underutilized, but even so, it’s nice to have it when you need it. Some online players integrate this feature by default, while others trail behind in that aspect. If you like having a video playing while you multitask, and also want to actually see the footage, you can’t really go wrong with picture-in-picture.

Floating Video Player takes advantage of this functionality to provide users with a simple solution for their video playback needs. You can add YouTube links or specify local clips, and the tool will play them for you in a floating window that can be resized as you see fit.

The program is as simple as they come in terms of overall simplicity. Have a YouTube URL ready, and it’ll load the clip right away. Alternatively, adding a local video is another option you can consider.

A nice touch is that you don’t get ads on YouTube content, so there’s no waiting around involved. As stated earlier, the playback window can be resized and moved to your preferences.

Anything you add will be included in a playlist on the interface, allowing you to quickly go back to previous clips. Keep in mind that exiting the program will also clear the playlist, so it’s a bit of a shame you don’t have an option to prevent this.

Playing local content wasn’t as smooth of an experience as I had hoped. Any local footage I added would exhibit some weird back-and-forth glitching, rendering the videos unwatchable. As such, I would recommend waiting it out until a fix is released, and instead sticking with YouTube playback only.

Floating Video Player is thus something you can use to play your YouTube clips using picture-in-picture. While the experience of playing local content left a lot to be desired, I’d wager YouTube is what most users will want this program for.
