Subtitles are designed to translate the lines of actors or the narrator in a video and thus make the audience understand the message in their own language. But it can happen that you don't know the meaning of a word and that is where Mideo comes in.
Mideo aims to save you the trouble of having to pause your video to search for the meaning of a word you came across while watching. Thanks to the integrated English dictionary, it can display a detailed explanation of a word itself. It can translate entire subtitle lines using Google Translate.
As the video plays, all you have to do in order to access the dictionary entry of a specific word is to click on it. To be more specific, any word in the subtitle you click on is automatically searched in the dictionary and the result is shown in a popup window.
Other than that, Mideo is nothing more than a simple video player, with a feature set similar to that of many other such applications. It provides support for various file formats, but it is only compatible with SRT subtitle files. To load a new subtitle, all you have to do is drag and drop it in the main window.
Its main window comprises the viewing area and basic playback controls, enabling you to resume or pause the video whenever you want to. You can also adjust the volume, add and remove subtitles and change the text size. Other options allow you to stretch the video playback area and activate full screen mode.
The idea that Mideo implements is good, since it enables users to quickly read about the meaning of a word they don't understand, making the message of the video get past the language barriers and reach its audience.
Its utmost feature is the integrated English dictionary, which allows users to read a word's dictionary definitions without interrupting playback to look it up elsewhere. On the downside, you can only search for English words, since no other dictionary is available. However, the Google Translate integration can be of help in this case, since it enables you to easily view the meaning of a word in your native language, whatever that is.
