Use this free-to-use and open source screen recording tool to record your best in-game moments, and clip them for sharing with others. #Screen Recorder #Record Desktop #Game Highlight Clipper #Recorder #Screen #Clipper
Users choose to record their screens for a variety of reasons, and whatever those reasons are, it's always nice to have a recorder on hand. Whether it is recording a tutorial, or looking to clip some of your moments in a game, a number of uses can be found for such tools.
Seeking to offer users with an option that is both open source and free to use, Casterr is a new entry into this software category. It offers an easy and accessible way for users to record their desktop, while also affording them the ability to record their gameplay and clip their best moments.
You don't see video recording tools with those characteristics too often, which is a bit of a pity. What you're getting here can be used to record your screen without a problem: click the Record button, and the tool will handle the rest.
Some options can be modified under the Settings menu, and they mainly involve changing the resolution, format, and frame rate of your footage. While the list of recording formats may be quite barren, having MP4 and MKV as the options should cause no compatibility problems anywhere. It would have been nice to be able to modify the recording codec, however, as this would give users more options to fine-tune their recording.
You can record your gameplays through this tool, which is made possible by the fact that it records your entire screen. The lack of an option letting you choose what window to record, or designating a region to record in, is a bit of a missed opportunity, but it's possible that such features will be implemented in a later release.
It's worth nothing that the tool does consume some amount of system resources during the recording process, which, depending on your hardware, may affect your gaming performance.
Upon recording, users will be able to go through their footage through the built-in video player, and clip the moments they wish to share.
Aside from the caveats listed before, Casterr does not yet support any hotkeys for recording, which means that you'll have to manually click the Recording button. As it stands now, it's a decent video recording tool with lots of room to improve.
